Ben Franzosa is a St. Gertrude Parishoner serving in Iraq. When you pray each week for the soldiers serving in Iraq, one of the soldiers you are praying for is Ben Franzosa. Ben left for Iraq last July and is serving there for 12 months with the 543rd Military Police Company, 10th Mountain Division, based at Ft. Drum, N.Y.
As a Military Policeman stationed in Iraq, Ben is working with Iraqi police. He is also heading up ‘Operation Soccer Ball’, a charity which collects soccer balls to give to children in Iraq. Ben’s hope is that, while he is in Iraq, he can collect and distribute 1,000 soccer balls to children in the area he patrols. Ben wants to help the children he sees every day to forget the war for a while and just be able to play and know that there is hope for tomorrow.
